The course material explains the evolving road drainage philosophies. The course material describes traveled way surfaces, porous fills, back slopes and fill slopes which are used to drain concentrated surface flow off roads. The course material presents concepts for minimizing water displacement, such as out slope, in slope, and crown, which are used to drain concentrated surface flow out of the traveled way. This course is based on Minimizing Low Volume Road Water Displacement by USDA and Forest Service.
